If you're in the Ottawa area and would like to see my painting, it will be on display at Galleria 173 for the next couple of weeks.

I hope you've enjoyed following the development of my painting. I've appreciated the comments and hope to continue the site at some point with new work.

This is it. No more painting. Now it's video time. I've shot the footage and transfered it to digital. Now some After Effects magic and the project is complete.

That looks pretty good

I've become quite fond of that last (cropped) shot of the painting. I'm almost tempted to cut the painting up into little vignettes like that. But I don't think that will happen.

You can see my first attempts at the saw dust technique here in the burnt sienna part on the left leg. (*gasp* that's supposed to be a leg). I haven't decided yet if I like it or whether it will be sanded off next class.

-November 18- Looks like I'm just about done. (You're never really done). Tom has suggested that since I am ahead of schedule that I may as well try a few experiments. Namely, using gel medium to glue saw dust to the anatomical elements and then painting back over them to differenciate them.

-November 16- Some re-colouring of some major areas to try to balance and shape things a bit better.

-November 11- I'm pretty happy with the lower half. Just trying to figure out what to do to the top.

Don't think, paint!

I'm enjoying myself. The scale of the painting and the chance to mess around and experiment are great fun. I'm tightfisted and conservative so it isn't easy for me to slop on the paint but it's getting easier as I get caught up in the flow. It's a bit rough only working in three hour intervals. I'd somewhat rather just go in for a day or two and eat, sleep and paint.

I'm still having issues with the acrylic. I'm accustomed to oils so I don't like how fast it dries on me. Especially the globs of paint sitting on my palette waiting for the moment that I need just a touch of raw sienna to liven up some french ultramarine blue. I also need to pay more attention to my water. It's free you know. I should change it more often but I'm lazy.

Wassily Kandinsky Reference

For anyone interested, here are some images of Kandinsky's paintings.

Paint has finally touched the canvass.

After a week of redoing collages and transfering the outlines onto the canvass, paint has finally touched the canvass. It's exciting.

Tom's only comments to me:
"Good hand, good hand."
"It seems that you're the only one that listens to me, huh?"
"Look at Kandinsky over the weekend. Just look. You've got some potentially very interesting things happening."

It's always a good sign when you hear him yell at everyone else about something that you're doing but he doesn't seem to care that you're doing it.

A good start.

September 22- Collage completed and transfered to canvass. Posted by Hello
